ASPECTS OF LONDON's PAST...
London is a city with some 2,000 years of history. Its streets, parks, courtyards, rivers (the Thames and others) and what lies beneath its surface contain a rich seam of historical facts, stories, tales, legends and myths to be mined and appreciated. As well as being a source of interest, delight and fun, delving into the past of this famous city can help us appreciate why things are the way they are today, and how we can learn from the past to improve things for tomorrow (if you happen to be interested in improving urban environments in all aspects on a global basis, visit surediscities.com).
I have lived in, worked in and frequented various parts of London for many years, and I have spent many hours walking its streets to learn about its past. The more I learn about this city, the more I appreciate that I know only a limited amount about it. There is always more to discover. I hope this website can be a useful if small addition to the extensive body of information from a wide range of sources. I hope the references and links I have included across the pages (which I do not control, of course) are of interest. And, I hope that this website can be a useful aide to you, to step into the past and imagine what life used to be like in previous centuries, as you wander around the fabric of the city that exists today.
